Ashton Kutcher opens up on "pretty bizarre" That '70s Show spinoff
Los Angeles, California - Ashton Kutcher will be reprising his role as Michael Kelso in the upcoming That '70s Show spinoff, and he recently opened up a wild and nostalgic experience.
In an interview with Variety, the actor shed some light on the action behind the scenes of That '90s Show, details of which have been kept under wraps since it was announced last October.
"It was really nostalgic to be back on the set," he said. "It’s all the same folks that made That ’70s Show, so it was pretty bizarre."
That '90s Show will bring back most of the original cast in guest roles, including Topher Grace as Eric, Laura Prepon as Donna, and Wilmer Valderrama as Fez.
Kutcher's real-life wife Mila Kunis will also be returning as Jackie Burkhart. The couple famously shared their first kiss in the original show, which aired from 1998 to 2006, and wound up marrying each other in 2015.
"Mila and I were contemplating it," Kutcher said of their decision to sign up for the new project. "We thought, 'Listen, we’re only in the position that we’re in because of that show, so let’s just go back and do this.'"
"We just went back and had fun for a week. It was so random and fun."
Ashton Kutcher promises a funny reboot
That '90s Show will introduce a handful of new cast members as it picks up where its predecessor left off.
The story will follow Callie Haverda, who plays Leila, the daughter of Eric Foreman and Donna Pinsciotti, as she visits her grandparents, Red and Kitty, at their home in Point Place, Wisconsin for the summer of 1995.
Some of the original cast won't be returning. Danny Masterson, who played Hyde, is facing charges of sexual assault, and Tanya Roberts, who portrayed Donna's mother, Midge, passed away in January 2021.
Little else is known about the That '90s Show, but Kutcher believes it will be worth the 15-year wait.
"It’s really funny," he told Variety. "The new cast is phenomenal."
A release date hasn't been announced for yet, but the series is rumored to begin streaming on Netflix by the end of the year.
