Are Saturday Night Live staff boycotting as Dave Chappelle is set to host?
New York, New York - With controversial comedian Dave Chappelle scheduled to host Saturday Night Live this weekend, it has been rumored that some of the show's staff writers have decided to protest.
An inside source has claimed that writers of the iconic late night sketch show have opted out of working on this week's episode due to Chappelle's transphobic and homophobic jokes, according to Page Six.
On Thursday, TMZ reported the rumors were untrue, sharing that the comedian's reps told the outlet Chappelle has met with the SNL team for three sessions – and there has been no talk of a boycott whatsoever.
The show has gone through a number of lineup changes as a handful of staple cast members have left SNL since last season.
NBC has had to bring in new talent for the 48th season, which includes its first nonbinary member Molly Kearney. They have also reportedly added a transgender writer to the team.
This will be the third time the star has hosted the show, but the first time since he released his last Netflix stand-up special The Closer, which was met with heavy controversy for his views on the LGBTQ+ community.
Chappelle has proven to be a fan favorite guest in the past, and hopefully his upcoming appearance will be no exception.
