Fletcher will direct several episodes of a new TV show based on the trilogy. The Offer will be an origin story for the events portrayed in the multi-award-winning mob drama.

Paramount Television Studios is planning a ten-part series, as reported by both the Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap.

Director Francis Ford Coppola made his big breakthrough in 1972 with the groundbreaking film adaptation of Mario Puzo's bestselling The Godfather. Marlon Brando (†80) shone as mob boss Don Vito Corleone and Al Pacino as his youngest son Michael.

But the production was plagued by squabbles over costs and casting.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new planned series will be based on the experiences of the first film's producer, Al Ruddy.

The Godfather won Academy Awards for Best Picture, as well as Coppola's direction, Puzo's screenplay, and Brando's masterful performance.

Ruddy will take up the mantle of executive producer on The Offer. Filming is scheduled for the summer.

In addition to the TV series, Hollywood is also planning a feature film, Francis And The Godfather, which will explore the making of the original movie.

Director Barry Levinson plans to enlist stars like Elle Fanning, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar Isaac to bring it to life.
