The Duffer brothers and Netflix channel the Upside Down in new projects
Los Gatos, California - The Duffer brothers of Stranger Things fame are reportedly cooking up new projects with Netflix that are based in the Upside Down.
If you build it, they will come.
The Duffer brothers, better known as the creators of Stranger Things, seem to be taking this saying to heart.
Rather than going back on their promise of season 5 being the final season of the wildly popular sci-fi show, Matt and Ross Duffer simply decided to create a new Netflix series based in the Upside Down.
According to Variety, it will be a spinoff that's based in the creepy world fans of Stranger Things have come to know. The series will be under the Duffer brothers' new production company Upside Down Pictures.
The Stranger Things creators teased a possible spinoff following Volume 2's release, and the new project has since been confirmed by Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix. "Matt and Ross are an exceptionally unique talent with a vision so crisp and clear," Sarandos said.
"They are all about the details – it’s no accident that Stranger Things has pierced the zeitgeist to become the epic pop culture phenomenon it is today. We’re excited to continue telling new stories with them as they grow Upside Down Pictures."
But a spinoff series isn't the only thing that the creative duo and Netflix have planned.
The Duffer brothers are taking over
In addition to a Netflix spinoff series, it was also reported that the Duffer brothers are working on a live-action TV version of the Japanese anime series Death Note. Additionally, the pair is actively working on an adaptation series for Stephen King and Peter Straub's book The Talisman.
As for Netflix, the streaming platform is said to be producing a stage play alongside Sonia Friedman and director Stephen Daldry. The play is reportedly set within the same world as Stranger Things.
Though there's no confirmation of when the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will air, the Duffer brothers are giving fans a lot to look forward to!
