Netflix bumps prices again and offers this new exclusive in return
San Francisco, California - Netflix subscriptions just got more expensive again as the streaming giant is now more expensive than seven other services – with exclusive rights to Seinfeld to offer in return.
According to Reuters, having Netflix will now set you back $9.99, $15.49, or $19.99 per month for the basic, standard, and premium plans, respectively.
It's the seventh price hike in 11 years, yet the amount of streams and the video quality are staying the same.
What customers get in return for the bump is four years of exclusive rights to Seinfeld, the continuing march of Netflix originals, and an utterly forgettable Netflix Games offering.
The company also issued a statement, quoted by Ars Technica, explaining nothing about what justifies the steeper payments.
"We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever, and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members," the statement said.
"We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always, we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget."
As vague as that may be, Yahoo Finance reports that Netflix has an earnings report to shareholders on January 20, which could be a main reason for the price increase, especially since the company's shares traded 3% higher after the new pricing was announced.
