Screen Actors Guild unveils nominations for 2023 Awards!
Los Angeles, California - Fresh off the glamorous high of the 80th Golden Globes, Hollywood is ready to continue the buzz of awards season with the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Awards season is in full swing, and it's the Screen Actors Guild's time to shine with some newly announced nominations!
On the film side of things, the ensemble casts of Babylon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, and Women Talking will compete for the top prize.
Golden Globe winners Austin Butler and Colin Farrell will compete against one another for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, along with Bill Nighy, Adam Sandler, and Brendan Fraser.
Viola Davis has earned a nod for her starring role in The Woman King, and Ana de Armas has been recognized for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the controversial film, Blonde.
Angela Bassett has scored another acting nomination for Marvel Studios, where she'll compete with Everything Everywhere All at Once stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, as well as Hong Chau and Kerry Condron.
As for the TV honorees, Gen-Z "It Girls" Jenna Ortega and Zendaya have each received nods for Wednesday and Euphoria, respectively.
The ensembles of Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Barry, Hacks, and Only Murders in the Building will compete for the top prize for comedy series, while Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark, Severance, and The White Lotus make up the drama nominees.
Surprisingly, House of the Dragon was snubbed for the ensemble nod despite its win at the Golden Globes on Tuesday.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards announce move to Netflix
Along with the nominations list, the SAG Awards announced a major change to the ceremony.
In the golden age of streaming, it seems awards season is kicking cable to the wayside.
This year, the awards will be streamed live on Netflix's YouTube channel amid a new partnership between the SAG Awards and the streaming giant.
Starting in 2024, the ceremony will be streamed globally on Netflix.
"We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new partnership with Netflix, and we look forward to expanding the global audience for our show," SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said, per Deadline.
"The SAG Awards are beloved by the creative community and viewers alike, and now even more fans around the world will be able to celebrate these talented actors," Netflix's Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria said.
The ceremony previously aired on TBS and TNT, but the partnerships came to an end last year.
The SAG Awards will be held on February 26 at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
