Palace insider reveals Queen Elizabeth II's pet peeve about Duchess Kate

London, UK - Duchess Kate and Queen Elizabeth II reportedly have a very good relationship, but one habit has the monarch on edge.

Unlike his brother Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40), Prince William (37) and Duchess Kate (39) are committed to the British crown and hardly ever make negative headlines.

It's no coincidence that the couple's apartment in Kensington Palace is right next to the Queen's London residence.

Still, the head of the throne doesn't seem to agree with all her grandson and his wife's habits.

An insider revealed to the Express that William and Kate, together with their children Prince George (8), Princess Charlotte (6), and Prince Louis (3), seem to enjoy spending a lot of time in their kitchen while at their second home, Anmer Hall.

The Queen (95) apparently considers that a complete no-go: "When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact that the kitchen is the main base for them," the source said.

When she first visited Anmer Hall, the Queen reportedly "couldn't stand" the family's habit of hanging out in the kitchen.

"In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work," the source said.

The fact that William and Kate spend a lot of time with their children in the kitchen, of all places, is something the Queen has a hard time reconciling with.

Lack of space is probably not the reason the family's habit.

At Anmer Hall, William and Kate can choose between ten different bedrooms, while the Cambridges' apartment in Kensington Palace is also lavishly furnished with twenty rooms.

But the two royals also have far fewer domestic staff than the Queen, with only a nanny and a domestic helper said to go in and out of Anmer Hall.

That means there's a lot more room for privacy – even in the kitchen.
