Meghan Markle's absence from the Queen's bedside might actually make sense
London, UK - Meghan Markle opted to skip out on traveling to Balmoral Castle with her husband Prince Harry, and some think it was due to fear she'd be rejected by the royal family. However, there might be more to the story.
When news broke that Queen Elizabeth II was "under medical supervision" on Thursday, members of her family including Prince Harry and Prince William flew to Balmoral to be by her side in her final moments.
However, missing from Harry's side was his wife Meghan, who reportedly chose to stay behind at the last minute, though BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell speculated that perhaps Meghan didn't attend out of fear it wouldn't be "appropriate," and that she might not be "warmly welcomed."
Though a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had reportedly indicated the couple would be traveling to be by the Queen's side during her last moments together, Meghan ended up staying behind due to a change of plans.
While numerous members of the British media were throwing shade Meghan's way for not traveling to Balmoral, that same criticism wasn't given to William's wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, who also skipped out on the trip.
In fact, Witchell himself even allegedly came to Kate's defense, saying she "understandably" had to stay home to watch her kids – a parental responsibility that Meghan also has. Even if she didn't have kids of her own, Meghan opting out of the trip might've been her way of showing respect to the royal family. After all, Prince Harry and Meghan aren't on the best of terms with the royals.
Though Harry and Meghan had traveled to the UK to promote their charitable causes, the couple originally had no intention of meeting up with the royal family as tensions seemingly remain high.
