Royally teased? Meghan Markle says she was mocked as Krusty the Clown
Los Angeles, California - It seems that even future duchesses like Meghan Markle aren't safe from being bullied! In a new interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Duchess Meghan revealed details from her childhood.
On Thursday, Meghan appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and gave her first American talk-show appearance in years.
She came off as surprisingly relatable for a woman who has been surrounded by the drama of the royal family, tabloid chatter, and a recent ongoing legal battle because of it.
In the new interview, Meghan shared a page from a self-illustrated book she wrote in elementary school, which included a self-portrait of herself at age "10 or 11."
On it: a young Meghan with a triangular-shaped, curly mop of hair.
"I was obsessed with Andie MacDowell," Meghan explained, "and all I wanted was that perfect curly little haircut."
But her plan didn't quite pan out, and she didn't end up looking like her actor idol as planned.
"It was as though everyone forgot to tell me, 'You have ethnic hair, you are not going to look like Andie MacDowell,'" she said. "And I went to school and they said I looked like Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons."
Although the 40-year-old can now look back and laugh, she said the traumatic time "was a real bummer."
Later in the episode, Meghan and her charity foundation matched a $20,000 donation from the show to a single mom's non-profit, which braids hair to help underserved kids.
The hair-raising experience may have been one that turned out for the better!
