"We are in awe": Rock & Roll Hall of Fame responds to Dolly Parton's request
Nashville, Tennessee – The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has responded to Dolly Parton's request to have her nomination pulled.
It looks like Parton is still in the running for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Despite the country music legend asking to have her nomination withdrawn because she didn't feel she "earned that right," the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation thinks otherwise.
On Thursday, the foundation issued a statement in response to Parton's request, saying while the music community had considered Parton's "thoughtful note," the foundation stands by her nomination.
"We are in awe of Dolly’s brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."
The foundation also noted, "From its inception, rock and roll has had deep roots in rhythm & blues and country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton’s music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed."
It seems there may have been some confusion on Parton's end regarding who qualifies for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but you can't blame her.
In an interview with Fox & Friends on Thursday, the music legend spilled the tea on her initial reservations.
"I didn’t feel exactly right about that because my perception, and I think the perception of most of America. I just feel like [the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame] is more for the people in rock music," Parton said, adding, "It kind of would be like putting AC/DC in the Country Music Hall of Fame. That just felt a little out of place for me."
Regardless of Parton's feelings on the matter, her nomination stands.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will announce it's 2022 inductees in May.
