Spotify Wrapped is finally here, but is competition leaving it in the dust?

New York, New York - The highly-anticipated Spotify Wrapped has finally arrived for 2022, but it seems that new competitors are capitalizing on the yearly trend, too.

Spotify Wrapped recaps music listeners' habits on the streaming platform over the past year, identifying their top artists and most-played songs.

The platform even curates an individualized playlist of each user's top tracks.

Spotify allows listeners to easily share their Wrapped on social media, creating Instagram story-esque slideshows and individual sections for users to post.

The social media element has grown to become the most important piece of the Wrapped puzzle, as users clamor to ensure their followers know that they do, in fact, have good taste in music.

The endless Instagram stories that flood social media when Wrapped drops each year have been crucial user-generated promotion for Spotify.

But this year, competitors have looked to get in on the unveiling – and grab a piece of Soptify's success – with their own unique spins on the concept.

Just days before Spotify Wrapped dropped, social media feeds were filled with fantasy music festival lineups courtesy of Instafest.app.

The program used Spotify data to create a fake lineup for the festival of the listener's dreams based on their most-played artists.

Instafest allowed users to choose whether their data was pulled from the last four weeks, the last six months, or all-time.

It's safe to say that many of the Instafest headliners correlated to listeners' top played artists of the year, meaning that the generator seems to have stolen a bit of Wrapped's thunder in revealing users' all-important top artists.

This year, Apple Music users were finally able to partake in the social media fun with the platform's own iteration of the concept, called Replay. Like Spotify Wrapped, Replay reveals a listener's top songs, artists, genres, albums, and more.

Though Replay meets many of the same benchmarks as Wrapped, alternatives to both concepts – like Instafest – just may be more on target in appealing to its audience. The eye-catching graphics of a festival lineup poster are ideal for social media stories, and its unique concept of a personally tailored music fest is innovative enough that users will scramble to ensure they're in on the trend.

Spotify Wrapped has consistently been a major player, but to stay on top, it may be time to up the game with more innovative ways to maintain its superior status – before competitors leave it in the dust.
