Things are looking better for this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

Not only is the event set to be broadcast live, the first round of performers make quite the star-studded lineup, to say the least.

Nailing down these chart-topping artists is an accomplishment in and of itself, and more performer are expected to be added to the show's three-hour broadcast in the weeks to come.

What's still unknown is whether the award show will be held in front of an audience.

The 2020 VMAs, which were initially set to be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, ended up being pre-recorded in a mostly empty venue due to the state of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic at that time.

So far, MTV is on track to hold the event live at the Barclays Center, whether an audience is in attendance or not. Now, music lovers have to sit tight as they await for additional performance announcements to pop up.

The 2021 VMAs will be broadcast live on September 12 at 8 PM EST on MTV.
