New York, New York - "Micky James was f**king iconic," a concertgoer was heard screaming as they exited Mercury Lounge on Friday night. And after the rising music star's electrifying new single and show in New York, many more surely agree.

Micky James' Lower East Side concert ushered in the release of his new track, fittingly titled New York Minute. But his performance proves he'll be around for much longer than that.

His Big Apple showing follows past performances at festivals and supporting acts like The Struts, The Regrettes, and Cherry Pools. The glam pop-rocker certainly knows how to command a crowd, and it's this magnetism that's cemented him as one to watch as he explodes onto the music scene.

Despite being a fresh face, James evokes some familiar favorites, with mic mannerisms like Mick Jagger, vocal vibes of The Killers or Arctic Monkeys, and looks that might be a cross between a young MIKA and a suave Jack White.

But James certainly stands out by possessing a '70s classic rock-meets-'00s alt-rock sensibility while still feeling brand new. It's a feat that comes naturally to the New Jersey native, who grew up just outside the city that inspired his latest tune.

In a bit of kismet, James unveiled his new single live for the first time near the old stomping ground of one of his biggest influences, David Bowie.

Bowie's mark is clear through the young artist's sound and style – James donned a dapper pink suit and glitter mesh tank for the occasion. Besides that, the two artists both have a love for NYC that is palpable.

"New York Minute took on a few different life forms, sonically and conceptually," James said of his new single.

"Originally the song was written as a love letter to New York City – a city that I grew up in and a city that has created so many memories for me as a young adult."

Having penned the song during the pandemic, James said the track is about "letting go of the past and learning from those lessons to create new beginnings in life."

With an EP slated for later this year, releasing a new single is just one of many epic new beginnings for Micky James.
