It seems as if Elton John found some creative inspiration during Covid-19 lockdowns, as many music artists did.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the Tiny Dancer singer will be releasing a new 16-song album titled The Lockdown Sessions, but it's unlike anything John has created before.

The album features an eclectic blend of collaborations with musicians from various genres, including Dua Lipa, Neil Young, the Gorillaz, Stevie Nicks, Lil Nas X, Nicki Minaj, Stevie Wonder, and Eddie Vedder.

Many songs on the album were recorded remotely via Zoom – something the 74-year-old has never done before – over the last 18 months.

In a statement on Instagram, John said, "All the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I'm known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory."

He continued, "At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I'd come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast."

The Lockdown Sessions, which will be John's 32nd studio album, will be released on October 22.
