Presented by the American-based civil rights organization National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The Image Awards is an annual awards ceremony to honor outstanding performances in film, television, music and literature.
Beginning in 1967 to encourage more Black participation in the white-dominated television, movie and recording industries, the Image Awards joined the ranks of televised network awards programs in 1986 when NBC began airing the taped awards presentation.
