Will Black Adam save the DC universe? Early reactions are buzzing
The upcoming DC movie Black Adam had its buzzy premiere in Times Square this week and is highly anticipated, but given the bad press the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has been subjected to lately, will the film be a success?
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's exciting debut as the complex anti-hero has been long-awaited by faithful DC fans.
Yet, a few major controversies have cast a shadow of doubt over the future of the DCEU recently.
From Amber Heard's explosive defamation trial with Johnny Depp to Ezra Miller's unhinged behavior, the DCEU has clearly suffered some bad press lately at the hands of its leading actors.
But fans shouldn't fret, as The Rock's superhero-sized arrival could very well be what saves the DCEU!
Black Adam's early reactions offer hope for DC fans
The controversial news surrounding Heard's bombshell trial and the volatile allegations lodged against Miller aren't the only drama DC fans have had to deal with lately.
The releases of Miller's The Flash and Heard's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have both been moved to 2023, while another anticipated film, Batgirl, has been axed altogether.
It seems now that the fandom's only hope is Black Adam. And from the early internet chatter, it appears he's just what the doctor ordered.
A few critics who got to watch the superhero flick early have given spoiler-free feedback on the action-packed film.
Fandago's Eric Davis excitingly wrote, "DC’s #BlackAdam ROCKS!"
"Tons of action, characters you’re instantly invested in & terrific pacing. Dwayne Johnson finds a great balance in being menacing & badass, but also empathetic. Especially loved Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman & Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate. More JSA movies please!"
Another film critic, Courtney Howard, tweeted, "The Rock is terrific in #BlackAdam, which includes a hearty amount of real world touchstones (most affecting is it reinforces the need for heroes in bleak times). Director Juame Collet-Serra lays out building blocks for a larger, grand universe. Action is lively & BIG in scale."
