Tomb Raider franchise gets its first female director

Los Angeles, California - The last three Tomb Raider films have been directed by men, but now Misha Green will be taking over the director's seat.

According to Deadline and Hollywood Reporter, television producer and screenwriter Misha Green will be making her feature length directorial debut with the new Tomb Raider movie.

The 36-year-old Green is known as the co-creator and producer of the drama series Underground (2016) and the HBO breakout hit Lovecraft Country (2020).

Graham King will produce the new Tomb Raider and Alicia Vikander (32) is set to play the adventurer Lara Croft for a second time.

The computer games that feature the heroine Lara Croft became a worldwide success in the mid-1990s. In first Tomb Raider movie directed by Simon West featured came out in 2001 and Angelina Jolie played the title role.

A sequel directed by Jan De Bont that also featured Jolie came out in 2003.

Then in 2018, the Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (47) gave the Swedish Oscar winner Vikander the role of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot.
