Scarlett Johansson files lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow release
Burbank, California - Scarlett Johansson has filed a lawsuit against Disney for releasing Black Widow on its streaming app and in theaters.
The entertainment company made an ingenious move to simultaneously premiere the Marvel film on Disney+ and in theaters.
But this decision could have led to a big mess with Scarlett!
On Thursday, the star filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the Marvel Studios and Disney at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to the Wall Street Journal, in Scralett's original contract with the companies, Black Widow was guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release.
Additionally, her salary would largely be based on how well it performed in the box-offices.
Despite its impressive $200 million worldwide opening, the action flick only generated $80 million theatrically.
"Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel," the suit read.
Because of the supposed breech, Scarlett could lose out on at least $50 million in bonuses.
Will this affect Marvel's future?
This isn't the first time the 36-year-old had issues with the film.
In June, Scarlett revealed in an interview that she resented how the fictional spy become "over sexualized" during her time in the MCU.
Though Black Widow was the conclusion of Scarlett's time as the titular character, it looks like she's in for the long haul with this battle!
In the meantime, the Captain America: Civil War star has other things to look forward to!
Earlier this month, it was announced that she is expecting her second child with her husband, Colin Jost.
This will be the couple's first child together.
Black Widow is still in theaters and available on the Disney+ app!
