Since the 1968 original, the Planet of the Apes franchise has been an enduring success for 20th Century Studios, earning over $1.7 billion at the global box office. After a 2001 remake directed by Tim Burton, the franchise was rebooted with 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Two sequels to the reboot, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, were released in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Directed by Matt Reeves, they were hugely popular with critics and fans alike.

Teague's casting in the upcoming installment was first announced last month. The 23-year-old is known for his roles in It, Black Mirror, and The Stand. Freya Allan is best known for her role as Princess Cirilla in The Witcher, while Peter Macon rose to prominence as Lt. Commander Bortus in The Orville.

Production on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to begin next month.
