Machine Gun Kelly's latest film project renamed after backlash from Mac Miller's brother
Los Angeles, California - A music drama starring Machine Gun Kelly, originally titled Good News, is being renamed one week after its announcement due to backlash from Miller McCormick, the brother of late rapper Mac Miller.
Though Deadline reported the film was "a complete work of fiction", the filmmakers drew inspiration from the lives of rappers whose lives were taken too soon by an overdose, like Mac Miller Lil Peep, and Juice Wrld.
The movie by Tom Sutton and Rivulet Media is set to portray the final days in the life of a rising yet troubled musician, played by Kelly (31).
Six days after news broke of the upcoming film, McCormick headed to Instagram to share his brief yet powerful opinion on the film. Though he didn't directly name-drop Kelly or the film itself, it was crystal clear who he was addressing.
On July 1, McCormick posted a since-deleted Instagram story that read, "f**k you. f**k your movie. at least change the title."
To much surprise, Rivulet Media actually heard his plea.
In an official statement made to E! News, Rivulet Media noted that while the original title Good News was meant to honor the late rapper, they understood the offense, and agreed to change the title.
"It's not in any way a biopic or based on any artist's true life. We realize the title, which was intended as an homage to Mac Miller, and other artists gone too soon, feels disrespectful. We've heard from many people on social media who have found offense with the title so, without hesitation, we will change it."
Filming for the upcoming music drama will begin on July 8.
