Mikkelsen is famous for his roles as a villain. Not only did he star as Hannibal Lector in three seasons of NBC’s Hannibal, the Danish actor also played Le Chiffre in 007's Casino Royale.

Most recently, he took on the role of Gellert Grindelwald following Johnny Depp’s Fantastic Beasts exit.

However, it's still unknown whether Mikkelsen will step into the role of the bad guy again for Indiana Jones, according to Deadline.

The news comes following the announcement that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for writing and starring in the award-winning TV series Fleabag, will be joining the cast as the female lead.

Harrison Ford will return to Indiana Jones 5 in his iconic role as archaeology professor Henry Walton Jones in the summer of 2022.

In 2020, Lucasfilm announced that Steven Spielberg would hand over direction of the planned fifth installment of the franchise to James Mangold after four Indiana Jones movies. However, the legendary director will remain involved as a producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel.

Indiana Jones 5 is expected to begin filming this summer and will hit theaters on July 22, 2022.
