Batgirl: In the Heights star bags lead role in new DC movie!
Los Angeles, California - After just recently making her Hollywood debut in the movie musical In the Heights, Leslie Grace is already soaring to new heights after being tapped to be the new Batgirl!
The 26-year-old singer hails from New York and proudly claims her parents' Dominican Republic heritage. According to Variety, she beat out fellow contenders such as Zoey Deutch (26), best known for Zombieland: Doubletap, and 20-year-old Isabela Merced, of Transformers: The Lost City fame.
Grace took to Twitter to share her joy at being picked to bring Batgirl to the silver screen again: "I'm ready to give her all I've got!" the up-and-coming star promised.
Batgirl first appeared in DC Comics in the 1960s, and is the secret identity of Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon, the police chief of Gotham City.
The movie will be a collaboration between Warner Brothers and DC Comics and will be directed by Belgian directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the duo who were at the helm of Bad Boys for Life.
Christina Hodson, known for her work on Bumblebee and Birds of Prey, will be providing the script.
Alicia Silverstone (44) previously portrayed Batgirl in 1997's Batman & Robin, a disaster which buried the franchise until Christopher Nolan revived it with his reboot. Shooting on the new movie is scheduled to begin in November.
