FYI, no slaps were handed out at the yearly show.

But there were some controversial moments and historic wins that took place on Tuesday evening.

Hollywood's elite didn't come to play as the display of glitz and glamor at this year's Golden Globes was impeccable.

Wakanda Forever!

Angela Bassett not only slayed the red carpet, but she also made history as the first star to win an award in an acting category for their role in a Marvel film.

During her emotional acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress, the 64-year-old screen veteran honored her late costar Chadwick Boseman, who was the source of inspiration for the Black Panther sequel.

Meanwhile, the master of ceremonies made a few jabs that weren't well-received.

Carmichael kicked off his opening monologue by taking aim at the late Whitney Houston, and it probably wasn't a good idea.

"So, we are here, live, from the hotel that killed Whitney Houston, the Beverly Hilton," the 35-year-old comedian said to the stunned audience.

Taking things even further, the host then poked fun at Tom Cruise and Scientology as a whole when he mentioned the wife of David Miscavige, Shelly, who hasn't been seen publicly in nearly 15 years.

"Backstage, I found these three Golden Globes that Tom Cruise returned. I have a pitch: I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige. Anyway."

Needless to say, the jokes were met with awkward laughs, a few shocked faces, and major backlash from fans.

Fellow longtime comedian and actor Eddie Murphy was given the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes this year.

And while accepting the coveted award, the Nutty Professor star made a jab at Will Smith while giving a few pointers on how to have a successful career in Hollywood.

"It's very simple, just do these three things: Pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith's wife's name out of your f**king mouth!" Murphy told the audience.

While the joke didn't ruffle too many feathers, the 61-year-old later clarified to Entrainment Tonight that he has nothing but love for the Smith family.

"I've worked with Jada, I love Will. I love Will, and I love Chris. And it’s all love," Murphy said.
