R2-Tamagotchi: Lucasfilm announces pocket version of your favorite droid
San Francisco, California - Star Wars fans rejoice! Disney and Japanese toy creator Bandai have teamed up to bring one of Lucasfilm's favorite characters to a keychain near you!
What could be more fun than a new toy that's a complete blast from the past? Engadget reports that everybody's favorite Droid, R2-D2, will soon be available to buy in Tamagotchi form!
The digital "pets" on a keychain took the toy world by storm in the mid-90s, requiring constant monitoring and upkeep via three small buttons to make sure your pet stayed alive and entertained.
Now the Droid-on-a-keychain will mean Star Wars fans can interact with a slightly more modern version of the original toy.
Droid owners will be able to teach R2 up to 19 different skills. Though he won't be able to die like the traditional digital pets, he could be stolen off by marauding Jawas if you don't give him enough attention.
The device will come in two white/blue color schemes, though it is not yet clear if the toy will be able to receive updates over time.
Aside from general maintenance, R2-D2 will be able to play nine different mini-games with you, including Dejarik, which is the holochess game from the films.
