Netflix takes another big step into the gaming world with a big buyout!

Los Gatos, California - Netflix has been stepping up its forays into gaming over the past few months. After hiring a former EA executive to build a gaming division, it has now bought California indie game maker Night School Studio outright!

Netflix plans to make it even easier for you to never leave your screen. Soon, you can take a break from binging your favorite show to binge your favorite Netflix-exclusive game.

The goal of the collaboration is to work together to create titles that bring diverse and creative storytelling to gamers' living rooms in a straightforward way, with plenty of innovation and heart.

Netflix is clearly pursuing another goal. Offering games as part of its streaming service would allow the platform to get into the extremely lucrative $138-billion gaming industry.

Netflix already tried its hand in gaming, with a test release of two Stranger Things mobile games in August 2021 and a choose-your-own-adventure episode of Black Mirror.

Now you can expect the streaming service to offer fleshed out games developed by the talented Night School Studio team. The studio's co-founder Sean Krankel is very happy with the deal, and no wonder. Getting snapped up by Netflix is a giant step forward for an indie game studio.

"Not only can we continue to do what we want to do, but on top of that, we get a front row seat on the world's largest entertainment platform," Krankel said.

It's not yet clear exactly what kind of games we can look forward to, but Night School Studio's planned sequel Oxenfree 2 is still in production and will be released for Netflix.

Netflix's plans include the promise to have games for any kind of gamer and level of play.

The games will be included in the regular Netflix subscription, so there will be no ads or in-app purchases.
