Bring it on! Games to look forward to in 2022

New York, New York - 2022 looks promising for gamers, and there are plenty of new titles to look forward to. Here are four of the games we're stoked to try!

Annika is looking forward to: Hogwarts Legacy

I haven't exactly been starving as a fan of the Harry Potter universe, thanks to the Fantastic Beasts movies. And author J.K. Rowling's questionable statements about the LGBTQ+ community admittedly put a huge damper on my positive feelings about her work.

On the other hand, I fondly remember the countless hours I spent during my childhood with the Harry Potter games on GameCube and PlayStation 2, because they managed to deliver that exciting, magical feeling from the books and movies.

Hogwarts Legacy is the next Harry Potter game in the works, and is expected to launch at some point in 2022. It will let you play as a witch or wizard, choose your own Hogwarts house, and go on adventures in an open world.

The fact that you can visit places like the Forbidden Forest and the village of Hogsmeade in addition to Hogwarts should make the heart of every Harry Potter fanatic beat faster.

A definite release date has not been set yet, but as expected, the hype is already immense. It remains to be seen if the developers can live up to the high expectations of the die-hard fans.

Here's hoping that Hogwarts Legacy manages to rekindle my somewhat rusty love for the franchise.

What could be better than being an orphan in plague-ridden 14th century France trying not to get killed?

Well, a few things, but publisher Focus Home Entertainment and developer Asobo Studio gave us the heart-pounding experience with A Plague Tale: Innocence in 2019.

The setting, the story, and the atmosphere won the hearts of many a player, and was thought of as the Game of the Year at the time.

That's why I'm eagerly awaiting the announced sequel, A Plague Tale - Requiem.

So far we don't know much, but we do know that the story follows the events of the first game and that we can look forward to a reunion between the characters Amicia and her little brother Hugo.

It is not yet clear when the game will hit the various platforms, but if developers at Asobo Studio can deliver the same quality as the first game, then the sequel is already a must-buy.

I'll admit: I was a little late to the game when it comes to God of War, but since playing the 2018 reboot, I just can't stop raving about it.

The gameplay was great, the game world incredibly well-designed with all its characters and exciting side missions, and the story perhaps the best I've experienced in a game so far.

So naturally, my anticipation for the upcoming sequel is through the roof.

What we've seen of God of War Ragnarok so far already looks exciting, and I can't wait to dive back into this world of gods and Norse mythology.

It's a shame there's still no firm release date, even though the game has been in development for a long time.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can finally romp about with Kratos and Atreus again in 2022.

Michi is looking forward to: Elden Ring

As a long-time fan of challenging action games, it's no surprise that my most anticipated game of 2022 has to be Elden Ring.

Developer From Software has teamed up with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin to create an open world that will bring tears to the eyes of any fan of the fantasy genre.

Numerous players were able to put parts of the game through its paces in November as a network test, and the unanimous opinion is that Elden Ring is looking like an absolute showstopper!

Your nameless hero roams the world on a noble mount, which can apparently also be used as a tactical companion in battle.

However, this won't be of much use against the game's huge bosses. Those who are already familiar with the merciless formula of From Software's games know that one wrong move is enough to spell your doom.

Hopefully, the title will be spared too many postponements and can be unleashed on the gaming community as planned on February 25.

One look at the January Games Release Radar will tell you there is a truckload of games already headed your way in 2022 – so there's plenty to get your hands on.
