WILLOW teams up with Kid Cudi for a banging remix of her crossover hit
Los Angeles, California – WILLOW gets Kid Cudi to steer away from his rap ways on the remix of her crossover single, t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l.
Since WILLOW first came on the music scene with Whip My Hair in 2010, she's managed to change her sound, and even her name, numerous times.
When she released her album, Lately I Feel Anything, in July, the compilation of tracks were noticeably different from anything people had heard from her before, including the song, t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l.
The original version of the punk rock single features Travis Barker on the drums, but the remix for her crossover hit includes a familiar face in the world of alternative music in Kid Cudi.
One of the ear-catching aspects of Kid Cudi's music is his ability to seamlessly combine hip-hop rhymes with alternative rock sounds.
While the 37-year-old rapper might have a history of adding a punk rock flair to his music, he's never appeared on a track quite like the t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l remix.
Kid Cudi's verse on the track manages to give the song some new life and an alternate perspective from WILLOW's, almost as if his verse serves as the conversational response to hers.
In the first verse, WILLOW sings about how she, "Knew a boy just like you. He's a snake, just like you. Such a fake just like you, but I can see the truth."
In the second verse, Cudi offers up his rebuttal to WILLOW's accusations, singing, "Don't wear the mask, I see through your eyes. Yeah, you know me – lost boy, the lonely. Fire envy burns through the night. I will show you soon, you'll be believing. See-through my soul, baby, let me burn ya."
The t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l remix marks the second time WILLOW and Kid Cudi have teamed up. Their first collaboration came in 2016 with the song Rose Garden on Kid Cudi's sixth studio album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'.
