Will Brendan Fraser win Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars?
Los Angeles, California - Amid actor Brendan Fraser's career comeback, he's now clinched his very first Oscar nomination. Could this be his year?
The "Brenaissance" has come full circle with the actor scoring a spot in the Best Actor category for his role in The Whale.
Following his big win at the Critics Choice Awards, the 54-year-old could very well take home gold at the 2023 Academy Awards for his performance as the reclusive obese teacher who attempts to reunite with his teenage daughter.
Will Brendan win the coveted honor?
Even if he doesn't, The Mummy star's reemergence is something worth celebrating.
Brendan Fraser's triumphant career return
The real life Comeback Kid became one of Hollywood's most bankable leading men thanks to his iconic role as Rick O'Conner in The Mummy franchise, in which he debuted in 1999.
Yet Brendan's career and onscreen presence dwindled over the years, much to the dismay of fans.
It wasn't until his 2018 GQ cover story that the George of Jungle star discussed the "pause" in his career, which came after he raised allegations against Philip Berk, the former Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president and head of the Golden Globes - which Fraser has continued to protest.
Brendan accused Berk of sexually assaulting him at a luncheon in 2003 which he suggested led to him being blacklisted in Hollywood. He also cited his divorce and his mother's death as reasons for stepping back from the limelight.
But the actor wasn't gone for too long as he slowly refueled his career with several TV gigs, including his highly-praised role as Cliff Steele/Robtoman in HBO Max's Doom Patrol.
Now, his first leading film role in 12 years has brought him right back into the spotlight where he belongs - and fans couldn't be more psyched to see what else is to come.
Could it include an Oscar in his pocket? See if Fraser will take home the gold when the Academy Awards airs live on ABC on Sunday, March 12 from the Dolby Theater.
