Travis Barker's latest tattoo has a heartbreaking story behind it
Los Angeles, California – Travis Barker has been busy racking up more tattoos to add to his expansive collection of ink, but his latest has a significant and deep meaning related to his past.
In 2008, Barker was involved in a plane crash that took the lives of every passenger on board except for him and Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM.
On Friday, Barker met up with Joaquin Ganga, a well known tattoo artist to celebrities and athletes like Post Malone and LeBron James, for yet another tattoo.
The new ink, which Barker showcased in an Instagram Story, is a joint piece on both of his forearms that when put together says "survivor's guilt", a reference to that traumatic accident.
The tattoo was done in an elegant cursive script, layered on top of his numerous other tattoos he's collected over the years.
The former Blink-182 drummer has spoken openly about how the plane crash heavily impacted him both mentally and physically. In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Barker admitted to having a premonition of sorts about getting on the plane that inevitably crashed on takeoff.
"I called my dad. I don’t know what it was, but I said, 'Pops, I have a really strange feeling about this one. Something just tells me it’s not right.'"
He continued, "I said, 'I love you, and if anything happens, make sure the kids are taken care of.'"
Life after cheating death
After the crash, Barker had to undergo 27 surgeries, and woke up during 11 of them. Prior to being hospitalized and pumped full of morphine, Barker said he had been abusing drugs, and was on the verge of suicide,
It wasn't until he had kids that he realized he needed to change his ways if he wanted to be a good parent.
Barker seems to be on a tattoo bender lately, adding pieces left, right, and center.
Two days ago, the musician got the words "Don't trust anyone" tattooed across his chest. Last week, his new flame Kourtney Kardashian tattooed "I love you" on his hand. The day after, he had his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler's initials on his hand covered with a skull.
It probably won't be long until we see the next one!
