Tony Dow's son confirms the Leave It to Beaver star has passed away
Topanga, California - Tony Dow has passed away one day after it was incorrectly announced that the actor had died.
The news was announced via the actor's Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, with a lengthy post stating that Dow's son, Christopher Dow, had confirmed the 77-year-old's death.
Per the post, the beloved star passed away with his family by his side.
"We know that the world is collectively saddened by the loss of this incredible man. He gave so much to us all and was loved by so many," the post read. "Our heart goes out to Tony’s wife, Lauren, who will miss her soulmate of 42 years…To his son, Christopher, who will dearly miss his father, who was also his best friend."
Dow's son Christopher also issued a statement of his own: "Although this is a very sad day, I have comfort and peace that he is in a better place. He was the best dad anyone could ask for. He was my coach, my mentor, my voice of reason, my best friend, my best man in my wedding, and my hero."
Dow was best known for playing Wally Cleaver on the 1950s and 1960s sitcom Leave It to Beaver.
The late actor's representatives said they incorrectly updated his Facebook page on Tuesday by stating Dow had passed. However, they later deleted this post and shared an "urgent update" saying Dow's daughter-in-law had confirmed he was still alive, though not doing well.
Dow is survived by his wife Lauren Shulkind and his son Christopher Dow.
