Tinder responds to rumors that Bill Gates is swiping right on the app
Redmond, Washington - Bill Gates is now one of the most eligible bachelors on the planet, and scammers are trying to capitalize on that.
Since it was released that Bill Gates and wife Melinda are divorcing after 27 years of marriage, the Microsoft founder is now one of the most sought-after men in the world thanks to his huge fortune.
All at once, Tinder is brimming with profiles claiming to be Bill or Melinda looking for love.
Whether this is a hoax or an attempted scam is unclear, and Tinder didn't reveal exactly how many of its users were claiming to be celebrities.
Speaking to TMZ, the company says there are some tools in place to make sure these profiles don't get created in the first place, but that doesn't seem to be working.
For example, users would first have to scan their faces with facial recognition software to make sure the uploaded profile pictures matched.

After that, the profiles are checked for any inconsistencies before they are actually visible to all users.
If scammers still made it through, there's still the option for other users to report fake profiles.
TMZ suggested that people would have a better chance contacting Bill directly through social media than matching with a person claiming to be him online.
Twitter is already abuzz with suitors looking to take over from Melinda, with one user writing, "I'm changing my location on Tinder for a chance at a match with Bill Gates."
It's still unclear what exactly caused the Gates' marriage to end after 27 years together, but it's probably safe to assume that the magnate isn't seeking solace on a dating app.
