Ticketmaster slammed as entry issues plague Bad Bunny's Mexico City show
Mexico City, Mexico - Ticketmaster appears to be causing chaos once again after hundreds of Bad Bunny fans were wrongly turned away from the singer's show in Mexico City.
On Friday night, the 28-year-old was set to play a sold-out show at Estadio Azteca, but videos shared by concertgoers revealed a half-empty general admission section just minutes before the singer began performing.
As it turns out, hundreds of excited fans had been turned away at the gates after security told them their tickets were not valid for entry.
Per CNN, many fans with legitimate tickets purchased directly from Ticketmaster were among those denied entry, with security telling them that the tickets had been counterfeit or duplicated.
After the chaos of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour presale, Ticketmaster has been under more scrutiny than ever as music fans call attention to its long history of questionable handling of concert sales.
Like Swift, Bad Bunny is one of the most popular artists in the world, and it's becoming increasingly evident that Ticketmaster is not able (or is unwilling) to effectively handle the high demand for these artists.
Ticketmaster responds to entry issues at Bad Bunny's concert
Ticketmaster issued a statement via Twitter about the fiasco at the Bad Bunny show, explaining that there was an "unprecedented" number of fake tickets.
The fraudulent tickets "generated confusion and complicated the entrance to the stadium, with the unfortunate consequence that people with legitimate tickets were denied access."
Estadio Azteca said in their own statement that any tickets that were cloned were reported in Ticketmaster's system, which led to the cancellation of valid tickets.
In addition to issuing refunds to fans who had been wrongly turned away, Ticketmaster said it would be working with Mexico's consumer protection agency, PROFECO, to prevent future ticket fraud.
It's unclear if there will be any changes to the reporting system that led to valid tickets being erroneously canceled.
Per Billboard, the flood of issues with ticket entry led to an almost hour-long delay of the concert.
