Taylor Swift recalls awkward audition with Eddie Redmayne
London, UK - Taylor Swift recalled a hilariously embarrassing audition she shared with Eddie Redmayne over ten years ago during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday.
The 32-year-old revealed that she auditioned for the 2012 film adaptation of Les Misérables.
The Anti-Hero singer admitted she was fairly certain the odds were not in her favor, as she had been told that her appearance matched the character of Cosette but her range was better suited for Éponine.
Nevertheless, Swift was called in for a screen test with Redmayne, who had already been cast as Marius in the film. As a big fan of the 40-year-old actor, she jumped on the opportunity to meet him at the audition.
Things soon took a turn for the worse in what Swift describes as a "nightmare" of a screen test.
Taylor Swift reveals what went down in the embarrassing screen test
The pop star was playing the role of Éponine for the screen test, which required some rather unpleasant makeup for Swift.
To achieve the look of a 19th-century French street urchin, the makeup team painted her teeth brown and gave her dramatic dark circles under her eyes.
Tay lamented the embarrassment she felt meeting the actor while in the getup, revealing that she tried to avoid opening her mouth while speaking to him.
"I was like, 'This has immediately become a nightmare for me,'" Swift said.
Redmayne recalled his own embarrassment during the audition as well. While he thought they would just be singing together, the pair were asked to act out the scene in which Éponine dies in Marius' arms.
The Fantastic Beasts star confessed that he had indulged in some pizza and garlic dough balls before the screen test. He was so worried about his garlic breath in such close proximity to Swift that he struggled to focus on the emotion of the scene.
Though Swift obviously didn't end up getting the role, it certainly made for one hilarious story.
