Oscars reveal surprising news about Taylor Swift's All Too Well short film
Los Angeles, California - The Academy Awards have dealt quite a blow to Taylor Swift in a surprising move.
The 32-year-old has been campaigning pretty heavily for All Too Well: The Short Film to score a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Short Film (Live Action).
The short film, which stars Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, is a long-form music video featuring the 10-minute version of Swift's hit All Too Well.
Swift recently appeared in Variety's Directors on Directors with Martin McDonagh, director of The Banshees of Inisherin, to discuss her experience directing the short film.
Unfortunately for the Midnights singer, the Oscars shortlist released on Wednesday revealed that All Too Well: The Short Film has not made the cut for the Academy Awards nominations.
Taylor Swift's All Too Well: The Short Film snubbed by the Oscars
Swift has directed several of her own music videos, including The Man, Willow, and Cardigan, but All Too Well marked a significant milestone as a short film.
The Anti-Hero artist likely planned to use the short film as a jumping-off point for the feature film she has recently revealed to be in the works. Swift is set to direct the film and has already written an original screenplay for it.
The disappointing Oscars news comes on the heels of social media criticisms of Swift's inclusion in awards season promotions like Directors on Directors. Others argued that her presence in the short film category in particular would be unfair to up-and-coming directors, who often first gain recognition through the category.
Thankfully, Swift will certainly have another shot to win over the Academy with her future directing projects.
While All Too Well may not have been recognized by the award show, Carolina, Swift's original song for Where the Crawdads Sing, has made the shortlist for the Best Original Song nominations.
