Selena Gomez explains why Justin Bieber split was "the best thing"
Los Angeles, California - Selena Gomez got extremely candid about her breakup from Justin Bieber.
In her poignant AppleTV+ documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, the 30-year-old pop star called her split from Justin "the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Everything was so public," Gomez recalled about the breakup per ET.
"I felt haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of. Then I just moved past it, and I wasn't afraid anymore."
She continued, "I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever and then just forgetting everything at the drop of the hand, it was really confusing."
"But I just think that needed to happen, and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me."
The Only Murders in the Building star also dished on a time in her career where she became "tired" of constantly being connected to the Holy singer after the head of her record label asked her to do a song with him.
"It just sucks too, because the whole song thing. He called me this morning about the song with Justin, like, when am I just going to be good enough by myself? When am I gonna be good just by myself, not needed anybody to be associated with?"
The end of "Jelena" haunted the former Disney star's career for years with the media making it worse by consistently pitting her against Hailey Bieber – though the two have publicly squashed any potential beef they had.
With Selena Gomez's new doc and new music on the way, the superstar is finally getting the solo spotlight she deserves!
