Ricky Martin responds to shocking accusations of relationship with nephew
San Juan, Puerto Rico - Ricky Martin is denying allegations that he had a sexual relationship with his now-21-year-old nephew as the pop star's lawyer insists that the accuser "is struggling with deep mental health challenges."
The explosive case centers on accusations that the singer mentally and physically abused his nephew during a relationship that allegedly came to an end a couple of months ago.
Purto Rican newspaper El Vocero published a report saying it had access to a domestic abuse restraining order filed against Martin by a family member, who complained of frequent calls and stalking. It added that the court documents featured claims that the 50-year-old refused to accept the end of an incestuous relationship.
A hearing has been scheduled for July 21 in Martin's native Puerto Rico.
The Livin La Vida Loca artist's lawyer, Marty Singer, issued a statement to Deadline, saying: "Ricky Martin has, of course, never been – and would never be – involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting."
Claiming the petitioner has serious mental health issues, Singer continued: "We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts."
Martin is also currently facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit launched by his former manager, who says she is owed more than $3 million in unpaid fees.
