Rebel Wilson reveals how she was pressured to stay the "funny fat girl"
New York, New York - Rebel Wilson's amazing transformation is still the talk of the town. But it sounds like not everyone has been supportive of the star's impressive weight loss.
The 41-year-old Australian made 2020 her "year of health," aiming to shed not just pounds, but also unhealthy habits in her search for a good, sustainable lifestyle.
Wilson reached every one of her goals and is clearly in a good place after dropping a mind-blowing 60 pounds – but all that is in spite of, rather than because of, her management team.
"I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, 'OK, I’m going to do this year of health. I feel like I’m really gonna physically transform and change my life,'" she told the BBC.
Her agents were apparently aghast: "Why? Why would you wanna do that?" she remembered them asking. "Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person."
Although the Pitch Perfect actor said she felt confident even with the extra weight, she still knew deep down that her approach to food was "not healthy".
"Numbing emotions using food" led the 41-year-old to nightly tubs of ice cream and she soon realized it was connected to the pressures of fame.
Being the healthiest version
Wilson never felt like a "natural performer," which added to the stress of being on-screen.
All this isn't to say she thinks the focus on female entertainers' bodies is normal. "It's fascinating, why are people so obsessed with it?" she asked in the interview.
Ultimately, her transformative journey was never meant to be about getting that stereotypical Hollywood figure. "It's crazy to try to fit that. It's just better to be the healthiest version."
Wilson's decision to start off on this journey was always about more than just superficial reasons. In an Instagram Live stream, she told fans: "It first started when I was looking into fertility stuff and the doctor was like, 'Well, you'd have a much better chance if you were healthier.'"
Though the comment hurt her at the time, it opened her eyes to some of the changes that she could be making.
Almost two years later, the Aussie ace is still living her best life and will always share helpful advice with anyone looking to try out their own health year.
