Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City star arrested and charged with shocking rip off scheme
Salt Lake City, Utah - The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah is facing years in prison for allegedly running a nationwide telemarketing scheme that ripped off hundreds of elderly victims.
The 47-year-old reality star was arrested on Tuesday alongside Stuart Smith (43), who was also a staple of the Bravo series.
They have both been charged with conspiring to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and money laundering," according to BuzzFeed News.
"Jennifer Shah, who portrays herself as a wealthy and successful businessperson on reality television, and Stuart Smith, who is portrayed as Shah's 'first assistant,' allegedly generated and sold 'lead lists' of innocent individuals for other members of their scheme to repeatedly scam," Manhattan Attorney Audrey Strauss said in a press release.
Reportedly, Shah and Smith teamed up to sell their "business services" to hundreds of people, many of their victims being over 55.
"In actual reality and as alleged, the so-called business opportunities pushed on the victims by Shah, Smith, and their co-conspirators were just fraudulent schemes, motivated by greed, to steal victims' money. Now, these defendants face time in prison for their alleged crimes," Strauss added.
On the reality show, Shah was notorious for flaunting her wealth and being surrounded by personal assistants, with Smith being "first" among them and constantly pushed around by the self-proclaimed diva.
Many viewers have previously questioned what Shah did for a living. After her recent arrest, some tweeted that "it all makes sense" now.
The conspiring duo may face decades in prison
The reality TV stars were reportedly still filming their series on the same day they were arrested.
Shah and Smith may now face decades in prison, as their charges carry maximum sentences of 20 and 30 years, respectively.
