Oprah Winfrey endorses John Fetterman over her protégé Dr. Oz in Senate race
Montecito, California - Oprah Winfrey, who helped launch Dr. Mehmet Oz's TV career, has now officially endorsed his opponent, John Fetterman, in the Pennsylvania Senate race.
Bye, bye, Oz! Oprah may be turning on the man whose career she helped build.
Winfrey spoke in favor of the Democratic candidate Fetterman during a voting discussion held online on Thursday.
"I said it was up to the citizens of Pennsylvania...but I will tell you all this, if I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman for many reasons," the 68-year-old said.
Winfrey catapulted Oz to fame after she promoted him as "America's Doctor" on her popular talk show. Her company, Harpo Productions, produced his daytime spinoff program, The Dr. Oz Show. Oz's conservative campaign for a senate seat and extreme views have been the subject of strong debate among voters.
The Fetterman campaign has since touted the star's endorsement on social media. The candidate's official Twitter page even has a new profile photo that features a mockup of the Oprah Book Club sticker declaring Fetterman the "2022 Election Selection."
The heated Senate race will draw to a close on Election Day on Tuesday.
