The time has come for Olivia Rodrigo to share her angsty attitude with the world in the form of her debut album, Sour.

The 11-track album includes her breakout hit, Drivers License, and two previously released singles, Deja Vu and Good 4 U.

The first single, Brutal, sets an intense, melodramatic tone for the album as Rodrigo reflects on the hardships of being an 18-year-old in 2021. The chorus concludes with Rodrigo saying, "it's brutal out there".

The self-deprecating track encapsulates the woes of youth, and the struggle of finding self-acceptance in a world full of comparisons and hate.

As the album rolls on, Rodrigo shows her raw vulnerability on tracks like Happier and Hope Ur OK.

She floats through the melodies, talking about love lost and being replaced with just the right amount of insecurity to make these tracks all the more heart-wrenching for listeners.

Sour soars to the top of the charts

On Happier, Rodrigo compares herself to the girl she was replaced with, while yearning for the love she once had, singing, "I hope you're happy, but not like you were with me."

Within hours of its release, Sour climbed to the number one spot in the US iTunes chart.

There's a surprise for fans of Taylor Swift embedded into the album, too. The song 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back samples New Year's Day from Swift's 2017 album Reputation. This marks the first time the 31-year-old music icon has let someone sample any of her tracks.

After Swift personally praised Rodrigo's artistry following the release of Drivers License, the two seem to have formed a close personal relationship, opening the door for Rodrigo to use Swift's instrumentals for her own track.

The release of Sour comes one week after Rodrigo crushed her first musical appearance on Saturday Night Live. Sour may be the title of her album, but things are pretty sweet for this rising star right now!
