Olivia Newton-John: Entertainment world mourns loss of Grease star
Santa Ynez, California - Olivia Newton-John has sadly died after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
On Monday, it was confirmed that the Grease star peacefully passed away at her Santa Ynez ranch.
Newton-John's official Facebook page wrote, "Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends."
"We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time."
The Physical singer's husband John Easterling also confirmed her passing to TMZ.
Newton-John was best known for her iconic role as Sandy Olsson in the 1971 classic musical Grease.
She was first diagnosed with cancer in the early 1990s and had been fighting the disease ever since.
Following the news of her tragic passing, celebrities and fans began to pay tribute on social media to the iconic star.
Star Trek actor George Takei tweeted, "Know that we are forever hopelessly devoted to you, Olivia. Rest in song and mirth," while Grease director Randal Kleiser told the Hollywood Reporter: "I'm Heartbroken. She was one of a kind, and so very kind. For over four decades of our freindship she exuded nothing but love to everyone she met. Olivia was exactly the way you imagined her. I will miss her forever."
But it was her costar and friend John Travolta who wrote the most tribute on Instagram.
"My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!," his post read.
