Nick Carter hit with lawsuit over renewed allegations of sexual assault
San Jose, California - Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter is once again facing accusations of sexual harassment from singer Melissa Schuman.
The 38-year-old singer is suing the Carter over sexual harassment, alleging that the now-42-year-old musician forcibly performed oral sex on her and made her do the same to him in Santa Monica in 2002. She was just 18 at the time, while he was 22, TMZ reported.
Schuman, who was a member of the girl group Dream, said Carter took her virginity even though she told him she wanted to wait until marriage.
The singer originally accused Carter back in 2017 and filed a police report, but the district attorney's refused to prosecute the case at the time.
Schuman is hoping that new measures amending the statute of limitations for claims like hers will provide another chance to bring her case before a judge.
Nick Carter denies sexual harassment allegations
It's not the first time Carter faced allegations of sexual misconduct. At the end of last year, he was accused of raping now-39-year-old Shannon Ruth in 2001. She was just 17 years old at the time and had been diagnosed with autism and cerebral palsy.
Carter has denied all of the allegations against him and publicly slammed both women as "opportunists."
The Backstreet Boy earlier this year sued Schuman for $2.3 million, claiming she has tried to extort money from him for years.
His lawyer, Liane K. Wakayama, told TMZ, "Melissa Schuman has been peddling this tale for many years, but her allegation was false when she first made it back in 2017 – and it still is."
"This PR stunt won’t shake Nick from his determination to hold Ms. Schuman and her co-conspirators to account for the immeasurable pain and suffering their extortionate conduct has caused," Wakayama added.
