Meghan McCain claims "toxic work environment" on The View caused her to quit
New York, New York - Meghan McCain has dished that she quit The View due to the show's "unhinged" environment and her feuds with the cohosts.
Ahead of the release of her book Bad Republican, the outspoken host revealed to Variety that the show's "toxic work environment" was the reason she left.
The controversial 36-year-old often sparred with her cohosts, which led fans to wonder if it was why she decided to leave.
Now, it seems the theories were correct.
On Tuesday, the outlet shared Meghan's candid interview where she called the talk show "unhinged and disorganized and rowdy."
She also explained that her January on-air spat with Joy Behar – when the 79-year-old fellow host blatantly stated that she didn't miss Meghan while she was on maternity leave – was traumatizing. It marked the day she decided to leave.
"I had postpartum anxiety," Meghan shared. "When I was back, I was really nervous. It was like starting TV all over again. I felt unsteady. I was trying to make a joke: 'You missed me so much.' If you watch the clip, her reaction is very sharp."
She said it brought her to tears and a panic attack.
Meghan further dished that her once-positive relationship with the show's moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, had also deteriorated.
"I felt at a certain point she stopped respecting me, and it was hard," she explained. "I don't know why I'm crying so much. I wish things could have been different. I know she had her own dark times. When I was on the show, she almost died of pneumonia. I wish we had better leadership that could have stopped a lot of it."
Meghan announced her departure from the series in July, just before it returned for its 25th season.
Now that's she given more context behind her exit, it doesn't look like she'll be returning again.
At least not anytime soon.
