The police in Gilford, New Hampshire announced in May that there was a warrant for the arrest of the musician.

Manson (52) appeared in Los Angeles last week, Gilford police chief Bean Burpee told USA Today and other media on Thursday. The musician was released on bail. The case is due to go to trial in New Hampshire in August.

The arrest warrant stems from an incident with a female camera operator at a performance by the rocker in Gilford in August 2019.

According to multiple media reports, he allegedly spat on a camera at the concert. TMZ.com published a short video of the scene.

The charges are of the misdemeanor variety, and could mean a jail sentence of up to one year and a $2,000 fine.

Manson's lawyer Howard King told People that the allegations were "ludicrous", saying, "It is no secret to anyone who has attended a Marilyn Manson concert that he likes to be provocative [...] This misdemeanor claim was pursued after we received a demand from a venue videographer for more than $35,000 after a small amount of spit came into contact with their arm. After we asked for evidence of any alleged damages, we never received a reply."

King insisted that they had been cooperating with the authorities the entire time.

However, three concertgoers told People that Manson repeatedly targeted the camera operator and made multiple attempts to spit on her, before finally succeeding.

Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, has been surrounded by a storm of controversy after multiple accusation of domestic violence.

Several women have made allegations or filed lawsuits against Manson for sexual or physical violence, including actor Evan Rachel Wood (33), who accused her ex-boyfriend of years of "horrific" abuse in an Instagram post in February.

Los Angeles police launched an investigation into the allegation, which the singer denies.
