Kim Kardashian's purchase of Princess Diana's pendant sparks a meme frenzy
London, UK - Kim Kardashian is up to her usual antics as she sparked controversy online after buying a necklace that belonged to the late Princess Diana.
After making headlines for wearing Marilyn Monroe's historic gown to the Met Gala, the 42-year-old reality star has added a new iconic fashion piece to her personal collection.
Kardashian reportedly purchased an amethyst Attallah Cross pendant famously won by Princess Diana in 1987 for $197,453 at an auction hosted by Sotheby's London.
The necklace was sold for more than double its original estimate.
The sale took many by surprise, leading to significant backlash on social media towards the SKIMS founder.
"she already ruined Marilyn's dress, a Alexander Mcqueen dress and now she had Diana's necklace… you will never be iconic kim kardashian," one user tweeted.
Meanwhile, Kristian Spofforth, head of jewelry at Sotheby's London, said that the group was "delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name."
As the story went viral, Twitter users began to spread fake reports of additional Kardashian purchases. This included everything from Doctor Strange's magic cloak to Lady Gaga's meat dress just to poke fun at Kimmy's rather absurd buying habits.
Here's hoping Kim K will rep the piece respectfully to carry on Diana's incomparable fashion legacy!
