Many celebrities, including Katie Perry and Kim Kardashian, took to social media on Monday to protest celebrating Independence Day following the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade.

In an Instagram story, Kim Kardashian reshared a post that said: "4th of July has been canceled due to a shortage of Independence. Sincerely, women." Kris Jenner and Bette Midler reshared the same post in their Instagram stories.

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi took to Twitter to share her own mixed feelings on the holiday.

"Not much to celebrate this 4th, I’m afraid," she wrote, alongside a picture of a cake with red, white, and blue decorations that said, "separate church and state."

On Instagram, Oscar winning actor Jessica Chastain marked the day with a picture of herself with both middle fingers up. In the caption, she wrote: "Happy 'Independence' Day from me and my reproductive rights."

New Girl's Zooey Deschanel posted a picture of herself in a Pro Roe t-shirt and wrote: "For when you want to wish America a happy birthday, but also want her to do better." She also shared lots of links to pro-choice resources.

But the most powerful intervention came from Madonna, who straight up called for a revolution with a tweet that featured a harrowing video of a woman being dragged into a prison cell by male guards.

Katy Perry also had her own snappy take, tweeting: "'Baby you’re a firework' is a 10 but women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler smh."

Her tweet drew a lot of attention – and not all of it positive.

The singer got a lot of flack from Twitter users who pointed out that she had given her support to LA mayoral candidate Rick Caruso, despite his unclear stance on abortion rights. Kim Kardashian has also previously endorsed him.
