Kevin Spacey takes up first acting role since sexual assault allegations
Los Angeles, California - Kevin Spacey's career imploded in the fall of 2017 following sexual assault allegations, but the two-time Oscar winner might be returning to the big screen after being offered a role in an Italian movie.
Franco Nero, the 79-year-old Italian director who played Django in the 1966 original that served as a basis for Quentin Tarantino's version, told ABC: "I'm very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film. I consider him a great actor and I can't wait to start the movie."
Franco Nero is on board to star in and direct the planned film, L'uomo Che Disegnò Dio. Producer Louis Nero told industry publication Variety that 61-year-old Spacey is set to take on a smaller role as a police detective. Spacey has yet to comment on the film. There was initially no word on when filming would begin in Italy.
In the fall of 2017, allegations of sexual assault and harassment were made against Spacey in the wake of the #MeToo debate. Several accusers went to court, but some claims were withdrawn or dismissed due to the statute of limitations.
Two men accused the actor last year in New York of molesting them when they were minors in the 1980s.
The once-celebrated Hollywood star has largely stayed out of the public eye since 2017, when his appearance in director Ridley Scott's film All the Money in the World was edited out. Aside from a few bizarre videos posted on social media, he has been keeping his head down.
The streaming service Netflix canceled its collaboration with Spacey for the award-winning series House of Cards at the time. The series ended without him.
