On Monday, the comedian shared with fans that she has been diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer – despite never having smoked.

Kathy explained that though she is having half her lung removed, she is remaining optimistic.

"Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing," the Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List star wrote. "I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less."

She added,"Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It'll save your life."

We admire Kathy's bravery, especially since the sometimes controversial actor has faced her fair share of adversity in the past few years.

In 2017, the 60-year-old star was blacklisted after a photo shoot showed her posing with a "beheaded" then-president Donald Trump. It appalled both Republicans and liberals alike, causing her to post an apology afterwards.

In a new interview with Nightline, Kathy detailed that the backlash left her in a dark place and led to a dangerous painkiller addiction in 2020.

"I really fell in love with them. Then, it was kind of the allure of, ‘Oh, I can regulate my energy levels or my moods.' Or...'I fell on my elbow in my act or something and I can be pain-free or something.’ And it got out of control very rapidly," she explained.

In addition to losing work and a very public fallout with a former friend, news anchor Anderson Cooper, she also suffered the loss of her mother Maggie, and sister, Joyce.

Despite her struggles, Kathy continues to stay upbeat and hopeful for her future.

"I'm gonna be just fine," the comedian wrote on Monday before going into surgery.
