Johnny Depp scores another win after judge rejects Amber Heard's appeal
Fairfax, Virginia - Amber Heard has suffered yet another loss after her objections on the verdict explosive defamation trial with Johnny Depp has been rejected.
Per Deadline, Depp's $10 million win in the bombshell trial will still stand, despite his ex-wife's attempts to get it tossed out.
Last month, the Aquaman star filed a motion seeking to either have the case's verdict set aside or a mistrial declared.
Her lawyers cited multiple factors, including an apparent case of mistaken identity with one of the jurors.
Yet, on Wednesday, a Virginia-based judge has dismissed Heard's request, siding with the Pirates of the Caribbean star's insistence that her claims were baseless.
In docs obtained by Deadline, Judge Penny Azcarate unequivocally dismissed Heard's objections.
Johnny Depp's victory stands but will Amber Heard move on?
Judge Azcarate also specifically noted that the juror issue was irrelevant and that the 36-year-old DC star cannot prove she was prejudiced.
"Defendant does not allege Juror Fifteen's inclusion on the jury prejudiced her in any way," Azcarate wrote in the documents cited by Deadline.
"The juror was vetted, sat for the entire jury, deliberated, and reached a verdict. The only evidence before this court is that this juror and all jurors followed their oaths, the court’s instructions, and orders. This court is bound by the competent decision of the jury."
On June 1, The Stand actor found guilty of three counts of defamation after the seven-member jury mostly sided with her ex-husband and awarded the 59-year-old actor $15 million in damages.
While the Pineapple Express star still has the ability to appeal the verdict, her chances of turning it around are now very small.
