Johnny Depp in talks with Disney to return as Jack Sparrow
Burbank, California - Johnny Depp is reportedly in talks with Disney to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
A source close to Disney told Poptopic that the company is "very interested in patching up their relationship" with Depp (59), and "reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial."
The source claims that Disney is offering $301 million and "a sizable donation to a charity of Depp’s choice."
Back in 2018, the star was dropped from the franchise after his ex-wife Amber Heard (36) penned an Op-Ed for the Washington Post where she referred to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."
Depp responded by suing her for defamation – a case he recently won. During the trial, the actor revealed that he would never work for Disney again, but it seems that might change soon.
"I know corporate sent him a gift basket with a very heartfelt letter, but I’m unsure how it was received," the source added. "But what I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow — so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character."
Johnny Depp is currently gearing up for a six-date European tour next year with his band Hollywood Vampires.
